1. Flats or Apartments

To start with we will try to discuss the most common and the most preferable kind of residential property people in urban and semi urban locations usually choose for them. One important reason is that flats and apartments include all the basic amenities that are required for a homely living. Limited availability and the soaring prices of land nowadays are some factors people in metros and cities choose to live in such high rise vertical buildings. These flats are designed according to the needs of particular families and individuals. They can be 1, 2 or 3 Bhk apartments and at times even more than that. Some builders offer certain additional amenities like parking and recreational gardens and these features tantamount to luxury for most middle class and upper middle class families.

2. Studio or Rk

Rk is the abbreviation for room kitchen which is also well known as studio apartment. You will mostly come across such houses in metro cities. There is no living room or a detached bedroom in such houses. Many young independent people, students and working professionals find these houses very fascinating. It won’t be surprising to see that in near future such studio apartments would be something many people would fancy possessing.

3. Penthouse

A penthouse is one luxurious house which is nestled at the top of some very high-end edifice. Penthouses are very much associated with status symbol and prestige of well off individuals. These come along with opulent characteristics which are not usually a part of other apartments in the building. What distinguishes these penthouses from other apartments is that there is a lot of natural light flowing in, ample ventilation and a grand view which is totally unobstructed. While being a part of multi residential buildings they do not fail to give a feeling of independence which is more commonly offered by plush bungalows and villas. Comparatively, penthouses have a higher ceiling than the regular flat apartments and are loaded with certain luxury amenities like a nice open terrace and exclusive elevators.

4. Bungalows

Bungalows are the kind of houses which have a large verandah, a nice roof that’s pitched low and is usually one storied or sometimes have an extra half storey. Bungalows possess wide open parking area and are credited with the luxury of a beautiful garden and stand at a considerable distance from other houses. Bungalows are quite expensive when compared to flats as they are meticulously designed and offer good living space. As far as the design structure of a bungalow is concerned it can be either traditional or contemporary depending on personal choices. There has been an increase in the popularity of bungalows with time as it offers vast open space which can potentially be used to enjoy certain festivals or experiencing a memorable wedding ceremony and many more recreational activities.

5. Villa

A villa is a type of a house that incorporates the newest technology, ideas and features. Villas have an expansive lawn and a backyard and many other modern facilities like a swimming pool or a club house and sometimes even a theater. Most of the villas are situated at the outskirts of the cities and often are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Another positive aspect of owning a villa is that the resale value of such properties are increasing with time as affluent people now seek  security, privacy, a better lifestyle  and do not shy away from investing in such promising ventures.

6. Farmhouse

These are houses which are more often chosen by people who are looking for a second house or have a liking for agrarian activities and want to enjoy spending some time in a certain location where they usually would have loved to set up a farmhouse. You don’t want to disturb people around you and at the same time want to throw a party for your friends and family in the lap of nature! A personal farmhouse is the best option you can choose for such occasions. Farmhouses are now quite ubiquitous in the contemporary world.

To culminate we can say that these were some of the major types of residential properties that we can find in India at this point of time. Though there are also some other unorthodox types too for example stilt houses, tree houses, huts etc. But these are a rarity in contemporary India as they are mostly brought into use by people who are engaged in the hospitality industry. Last but not the least we cannot forget about the palatial houses which were once inhabited by the grand rajas and rulers of ancient India. They still exhibit their magnificence and splendor though most of these are now converted into heritage hotels or museums.
